Microphotography: choosing and adding the photograph

The photograph is reduced to a few millimeters and seen through a lens. What you give us is what stays: three things decide how it looks.

1. One face, centered

Yes Avoid
One face, centered Face at the edge
One face, or one subject, centered. A face at the edge gets cut by the round window.

2. Light from the front

Yes Avoid
Light from the front Backlit
Light from the front. Backlit, or heavy shadows on the face.

3. The original file

Yes Avoid

The original file from your camera. Screenshots and forwarded images lose detail.

Before you choose: Is the face centered? Is it well lit? Is it sharp? Is it the original file?

How to add and adjust the photo You do it while personalizing the piece, on your phone or computer. It takes less than a minute and you can repeat it as often as you like.

  1. Choose the photo. In the “Photo” step, tap “Choose a photograph” and pick it from your gallery, or take it with the camera. JPG, PNG or HEIC, up to 20 MB. Step 1
  2. See it in the window. The photo appears inside a circle: it is the window of the piece, and what is inside it is what is seen through the lens. If it looks right, tap “Add”. Step 2
  3. Adjust the crop. Tap the crop symbol below the photo. Drag the corners to zoom in and the square to center the face. When you are done, tap “Apply” and “Add”. Step 3
  4. Confirm or change. Back on the piece, you see the photo as it will be. You can change it, adjust the crop again or let the atelier fine-tune the framing for you. Step 4

What if the photograph will not work? We look at every photograph before we reduce it. If it will not turn out well on the piece, we write to you before making it, with what you can change or asking for another photograph. Nothing goes into the atelier until it is right.

Two photographs? One photograph per window. For two, there are pieces with two windows, such as the Us Necklace and the Us Bracelet.
